In celebration of International Women’s Day, we spotlight the incredible journey of women entrepreneurs and celebrate their resilience, innovation, and determination to succeed in business. Beverly shares her story, which is at the heart of this empowering narrative. It is a testament to the strength and tenacity of women in the entrepreneurial landscape.
From Dance Studio Apprentice to Female Business Owner
As a female entrepreneur, Beverly has faced her fair share of challenges and triumphs on her journey to success. From navigating the challenges in the business world to overcoming self-doubt and imposter syndrome, she has emerged stronger and more determined than ever to carve her path in the industry. Through her experiences, Beverly offers invaluable insights and wisdom to aspiring female entrepreneurs. She addresses common questions and concerns many women face when starting or growing their businesses.
My journey in business started when I was just 13 years old. I embarked on an apprenticeship at a vibrant dance studio, where I found an incredibly supportive atmosphere. Transitioning from the dance world to the corporate sphere, I often found myself in assistant roles, which revealed to me the challenges of achieving gender equality within professional settings. This realization was further cemented by witnessing a Hall of Fame at one workplace that showcased only employees of the year for the past 50 years, without any female representation. Seeing this day after day made me reflect on the broader societal messages regarding gender equality.
My career journey led me to Chrysler. Here, I encountered a female executive who instantly became a role model. Fearless and formidable, she challenged her employees and imparted invaluable lessons. Witnessing her strength and generosity in sharing her time and wisdom, I realized the unsaid need to uplift other women aspiring to leadership roles.
Female Business Owner
I’ve often found myself navigating uncharted territory, feeling isolated. The statistics paint a stark picture of the challenges women entrepreneurs face. According to WBENC, a consortium of over 400 of the nation’s largest corporations, the number of women-owned businesses in the U.S. has steadily increased, now comprising 42% of all American businesses. While 39% of all businesses in the U.S. bring in over $100K in annual revenue, only 12% of female-led businesses achieve the same milestone.
