Almost every social media platform has cover photos, and all of them have profile photos. Why does this possibly matter, you may be asking? Not only does this matter, it can also help your business get more engagement when changing and updating these photos. We’ll talk about why these images are so important and how they can help you (and a few tips!) below.
Why Are Profile And Cover Photos Important?
What is the first thing you see when going to a business’s Facebook page? The cover photo and profile photo. This means these two images should sum up what you are trying to sell or what your brand is all about. If you don’t think twice about your cover and profile images, you could be giving off the wrong vibe to your potential customers. And we know this means possibly losing business.
We’re going to talk about Facebook specifically, here. When you change your cover or profile image, it appears in the News Feed. This is a prime opportunity to get in front of your fans and explain the image, say if it’s a sale or promotion, or explain what your business is all about. It needs to tie into your marketing style and brand image.
Tips For Good Profile & Cover Photos
When it comes to setting up a good profile photo, we recommend using your logo. If you follow this route, you’ll have the option to make several logos pertaining to the seasons and/or holidays throughout the year. Of course, if you don’t decide to follow that, it’s okay! Not every tip fits each business. Here are a few more tips we have when it comes to changing up your profile and cover photos:
- Make sure it’s a quality image. You don’t want this image to be blurry because it is the forefront of your social profile.
- Get creative! If you have a sale coming up, promote it using your cover photo.
- Use the correct dimensions for a perfectly cut photo. Cover photos are 820 x 312 pixels, and profile photos are 170 x 170 pixels.
- Utilize the video feature for cover photos. Ripl is a great tool to use for this one. It will take a little work and adjusting, but it’s great to see in action!
- Always stick to your branding style.
- Try to change your cover photo every so often. This keeps it fresh and will show up in the News Feed again to gain more reach.
- Be human, don’t be afraid to use pictures of you, your staff or your business. People want to do business with other humans not just logos and photos.
